"When icy winds lash across the North Sea in winter and dark waves crash relentlessly onto the beach, a side of the island is revealed that few ever get to see. In ‘Föhr 5 Metres Above Zero’, the island is shown not only as a summer idyll, but also as a rugged, powerful home – shaped by the breath of the sea."

In his new film, director Constantin Löhrmann opens doors that would otherwise remain closed to visitors, offering a deeply moving glimpse behind the scenes of real life on Föhr. The film tells the stories of people who take on responsibility day after day, who set out even when the wind is howling, who persevere when storms shake the very foundations, and who, with quiet matter-of-factness, ensure that life on the island goes on. These are heartfelt and honest stories full of warmth, courage and North German serenity. Complemented by valuable background information, the result is a portrait that gets under your skin – and surprises even those who believe they have known Föhr for a long time.

With tranquil images and a sense of intimacy, the film tells of solidarity, hope and the deep bond between people and nature.
