Tim Baldus

Support act for Michael Schulte

25 July 2024, approx. 7 pm

Warner-signed newcomer TIM BALDUS is currently establishing himself as one of the most interesting German pop acts - with a voice full of authenticity, vulnerability and zeitgeist. Charismatic, poetic lyrics with depth: this is a clever mind at work, translating emotions into impressive songs.

TIM BALDUS' voice, which sounds powerful and sometimes almost torn with emotion, has earned the young musician comparisons with greats such as Casper, Trettmann, Kontra K and
Henning May. His influences oscillate between indie pop, street rap and epic songwriting in an intimate setting: TIM BALDUS draws pictures that are actually harshly realistic - but which become a composition full of colour, elegance and life thanks to his unique rhythm of speech. No wonder: his second passion is painting. Art brings him grounding where he otherwise feels in free fall - somewhere between euphoria and overthinking, the mid-20-year-old devotes himself to everyday mental struggles and how he deals with them. And he's doing the right thing with it, gaining official recognition early on in his career - he was nominated for Newcomer of the Year at the New Music Awards 2023. His independent sound is constantly attracting new fans and his development is remarkable.

His songs deal with coming of age with a bitter aftertaste, lyrically painting a cinematic canvas with a melancholy view of excess and love in the midst of a claustrophobic, powerful soundscape. The streetsmart poetry of the artist from Saarbrücken finds perfect expression in the single "Winter in Paris": "Amber in the streets and the throats perfumed See how advertisements flicker brightly in front of the stars." He performs the intense track on ZDF Moma, among others.

Like in a stream of consciousness, the 26-year-old Saarlander wraps his longings and fears in ambiguous metaphors, the imagery is at least as powerful as his raw, boundlessly soulful voice, the productions between handmade-unpolished and punchy-noisy, the mood on the border between deep melancholy and defiant existentialism.

Live as well as on headphones: with TIM BALDUS, it's worth listening carefully. He's not an artist you can just listen to on the side. "I wrote most of the lyrics for months until I was happy. I hope you can hear that," he says about his debut EP.
