Föhr erLesen Family Culture Summer
Lecture by starguide Holger Everding
Tuesday, 8 September, 3 pm
The year is 3025; humanity has developed incredible technological solutions, and you are invited to travel through the universe at billions of times the speed of light...
...unfortunately, this will still be complete nonsense in 1,000 or 10,000 years’ time, because nothing will ever be able to travel faster than the speed of light. Never mind – today we’re allowed to dream! So let’s leave our solar system and set off on a journey to our neighbouring stars, through our Milky Way, to beautiful nebulae and star clusters, past black holes which we give a wide berth. We’ll see stars being born, and we’ll see them die.
We leave our galaxy and fly into a void where the distance between us and the stars is a joke. We pass millions and billions of other galaxies, to the end of the world, where space and time and everything, even our thoughts and dreams, come to an end.
