Island of Föhr Spring Summer
On the seabed to the fairway
16 August 2025, 12.15 p.m.
The endless expanses of the mudflats - hike into the North Frisian Wadden Sea with National Park mudflat guide Matthias Hansen.
The Wadden Sea off our island of Föhr has been a national park since 1985 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. Up to 10 million migratory birds use the world's largest contiguous area of mudflats (Holland, Germany and Denmark) as a resting area. Thousands of animal and plant species live in the mudflats and on the islands.
Walk with us on the seabed and experience this fascinating world!
We start directly in front of the hotel: we walk towards Langeneß on firm sandy mudflats to the shipping channel. As there are very few shells on the mudflats at this point, this tour on the seabed can easily be done barefoot. Alternatively, water shoes, old trainers or neoprene socks are also possible.
The tour explains the mudflats, the creatures that live there, the ebb and flow of the tide and other exciting things (for example, who knows who or what the "Small Five" of the Wadden Sea are?). There is something for all ages from 5 to 105. After 2 hours we are back on the beach in front of the hotel.
